This is an ongoing, free and open-access project to encourage awareness about the climate crisis. In collaboration with Eco Poet Leslie LaChance, I created a short film based on her poem “What They Are Saying”, which speaks to the connection of whales over great distances through their songs. This poem became a metaphor for humans’ messages about the climate to people across the globe. Filmed in the South Harpeth River in Nashville, Tennessee, the short film invites viewers to consider a simple message of hope or call to action regarding climate concerns. It can be expressed simply as a written message, or through music, movement, visual art, or other form of expression. This project has also been done as a residency through Triple A Teaching Artists, connecting middle school students in Nashville, Tennessee with community members in Dakar, Senegal.
